Westwood overpowers winless Georgetown to even record in district play at 2-2
Georgetown managed to keep things close in the early going Thursday night as they were down just 7-6 at the end of the first quarter but that all changed in the second quarter. Westwood wore down the Georgetown defense over the next three quarters and came away with a 45-17 win in district play.
With two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns, Ben Johnson kept the Warriors offense clicking. He finished with 143 yards rushing and 113 yards passing on 11 completions.
Westwood got on the scoreboard first when Princeton Collins broke loose for a 52-yard touchdown run and with the PAT the Warriors held a 7-0 lead.
Georgetown's defense held Westwood scoreless the rest of the first quarter and their offense tightened things up with a nice scoring drive that was capped by a 4-yard touchdown run by Dylan Jensen. Westwood managed to block the PAT to preserve the lead at 7-6.
Collins hauled in a 22-yard pass for a touchdown early in the second quarter to extend the Warrior lead to 14-6 and then Johnson capped a drive with a 1-yard run to put Georgetown in a 21-6 hole.
The Eagles picked up a field goal late in the second quarter to put the halftime score at 21-9.
The second half got underway with a Warrior touchdown that came on a 51-yard run by Johnson giving Westwood a commanding 28-9 lead. Johnson then hooked up with Collins for a 47-yard scoring strike later in the third quarter ending just about all hopes of a Eagles comeback.
Georgetown fought back to cut into the Warrior lead when Taylor Sachs raced 39-yards for a touchdown and with a succesful two-point conversion Westwoods lead was down to 35-17.
Collins would add a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter and Jordan Williams would boot an impressive 49-yard field goal to help finish off Georgetown and go on to the 45-17 win.
Collins ended up with four touchdowns on the night, two of those coming on passes from Johnson. He rushed 19 times and totaled 115 yards on the ground. Georgetown's Iam McCoig was 22-of-36 passing for 227 yards. Teammate Taylor Sachs had 101 yards rushing on 14 carries.
