State ranked Stony Point flexes muscles early and often as they roll over Cypress Falls to open playoffs with a win
ROUND ROCK--- Stony Point (10-1) claimed a 7-on-7 title this past summer and now they have their sights set on a 5-A title. With that goal in mind, they got off to a great start with a dominating 56-7 win over Cypress Falls (5-6) Friday night at RRISD Stadium in Round Rock.
On Cy-Falls first possession Stony Point showed them what they would have to deal with all night when the Tigers defensive lineman Jordan Wade sacked Jacob Poole for a huge loss. Then on the very next play Kevin White intercepted Poole to give Stony Point great field position. A few plays later Aaryn Sharp scored on a one-yard run that put Stony Point out in front to stay.
The Cy-Falls offense bounced back as they drove to the Tiger 35 yard line before deciding to go for it on fourth-and-8. Poole dropped back to pass and found an open Gratian Gladney but Gladney was not able to make the catch with a wide open field in front of him.
Stony Point took possession and struck again moments later when Aaryn Sharp hauled in a touchdown pass from Gerard Shillow that went for 51-yards and resulted in a 14-0 Stony Point lead.
The Tigers defense continued their dominance forcing the Golden Eagles to punt on their next three possessions while the Tigers offense built a 35-0 lead by answering each time with a touchdown. Sam Kelley rushed for two of them and Shillow had a 24-yard touchdown pass for their third score in a row. By the time the last seconds ticked off the clock in the first half the Tigers had amassed an incredible 366 yards of first half offense.
Sharp got first scoring honors in the second half when he scored on a 3-yard run sending the Stony Point lead to 42-0. Cy-Falls managed their only points of the game at the 9:05 mark of the fourth quarter when Troy Mitchell scored on a 1-yard run.
Stony Point was led by Sam Kelley with 150 yards rushing on 12 carries with two touchdowns. Gerard Shillow had 240 yards receiving with six receptions and two touchdowns.
Cy-Falls Tre Clark had 41 yards on nine carries.
