Stony Point defeats Waco as they rack upalmost 600 yards of total offense
ROUND ROCK- With last years loss to Waco fresh on their minds, Stony Point came out and made sure this one would turn out quite different. And it did, to the tune of 45-7.
Last year the Stony Point offense found the going tough against Waco as they managed just 146 yards of total offense losing to Waco 9-3. However, it was an entirely different story Friday night at Dragon Stadium in Round Rock. Stony Point's offense rolled up 593 yards of offense and scored six touchdowns in a rout.
While the Stony Point offense was rumbling along their defense was making like hard on the Waco offense who did not score until the fourth quarter. Waco managed just 169 yards of offense with only seven first downs. Waco managed the pick up only two first downs in the entire first half.
Stony Point scored 17 points in the first quarter with their first points coming on a Kory Leis 38-yard field goal. They would also pick up two touchdowns in the first 12 minutes of play with one of them coming on a 71-yard pass from Gus Barrera to Gerard Shillow.
They continues to flex their offensive muscle in the second quarter picking up two more touchdowns on pass plays while the defense got in on the action with a Kevin White 33-yard interception return for a touchdown. By the time halftime rolled around Stony Point had built a 38-0 lead.
Stony Point's Sam Kelly scored the last touchdown of the night in the third quarter with a 22-yard run which extended the lead to 45-0.
Waco would score their only points of the night when Dave Simmons raced 24-yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter which resulted in a 45-7 deficit for Waco.
Waco had only 40 yards passing on the night. Stony Points Gus Barrera Jr. had 159 yards passing on 6-of-9 attempts while teammate Aaryn Sharp went 6-of-13 for 130 yards. Barrera was intercepted three times.
Stony Point had 303 yards rushing as seven different players rushed for yardage on the night. Receiver Gerard Shillow lead all receivers with his 167 yards and six catches to go along with one touchdown. Four different receivers scored touchdowns for Stony Point.
